The Habersham Ninth Grade Academy hosted College Day on September 1, 2016 to help students

learn about college admission and high school credits and to celebrate the start of college

football.  College day was successful in improving student attendance.  HNGA's student attendance shown a more than 50% reduction in

absentees on Thursday, Sept. 15th when compared to last Thursday, Sept. 8th.  All but 14 students were present for College day.  Students

and teachers were encouraged to wear their favorite college shirt.

HNGA College Day included research of colleges during teacher advisement, college fight

song musical chairs at breakfast, and tailgate games at lunch that focused on post-high

school choices, as well as interactive college trivia.  Through the competitions, students were

able to earn points for their respective Houses.  The House System is a way for students of

the Class of 2020 to feel a sense of belonging, meet new friends, be a part of an advisement

group, and participate in a year-long competition between the six Houses.

“College Day was a great way for our students to learn more about their college options,” said

HNGA assistant principal David Leenman.  “We want students to be at school everyday and

enjoy themselves while learning.  And College Day was just a way for us to continue to focus

on our ‘2020 Vision’ while having fun."

Throughout the school year, HNGA will continue to have House competitions, while looking to

improve attendance with a Class of 2020 focus.
